US M113A1 ACAV - Military Police

John Robinson | Academy #1389

The M113A1 ACAV (Armored Cavalry Assault Vehicle) was a heavily armed U.S. Army version of the M113A1 used extensively during the Vietnam War. Designed for aggressive convoy escort and combat patrols, it added armored gun shields and a weapons station for the commander’s .50-caliber M2 machine gun, supplemented by two side-mounted M60 machine guns. Its diesel engine, tracked mobility, and amphibious capability suited Vietnam’s difficult terrain. ACAVs often fought as armored fighting vehicles rather than simply transporting infantry.

This ACAV was in service with the 720th Military Police Battalion in Vietnam.
